Plans have been put to Salford council asking to demolish a detached two-storey building on the eastern side of Walkden Road and then build eight new homes on the site.

The proposals feature four pairs of semi-detached units, all with four bedrooms.

Town hall planning officers have recommended approving the application, ‘subject to conditions’.

But Barbara Keeley, MP for Worsley and Eccles South, said there was ‘deep concern’ among residents, who feared ‘daily gridlock’ on Walkden Road.

The proposed development ‘would seriously affect traffic flow’ and increase congestion and pollution on local roads, she said.

She added: “Walkden Road is already one of the most heavily congested roads in the area with stop-start traffic at peak times. It would also cause loss of privacy to nearby residents who would be overlooked. Overall, I am concerned that this development will have a negative impact on the quality of life of my constituents.”

Councillors will discuss the proposal in a planning meeting on Thursday, May 10.
